Collection: Atlantic Salmon

Atlantic Salmon are found in salt and fresh water. That's why it is known as the “King of Fish”. Young Atlantic salmon, also referred to as parr. The bodies of parr are brown to golden in colour and have dark vertical bars and red and black spots when they are in freshwater. They are hidden from predators by these markings. When adolescent salmon are prepared to travel to the ocean, their vertical barring fades, and their appearance changes; they now have silvery, virtually black backs and white bellies. Adults are a very bright silver color when they return to freshwater to reproduce. Before spawning in the fall, they will once more turn a bronze hue after entering the river. Adults, now known as kelts, can become much darker after spawning and are frequently referred to as black salmon. Adults revert to their counter-shaded, silver-dominated color when they return to the water.
